First lady Michelle Obama has given the boot to the age-old parental admonition, “Clean your plate. There are children starving in China.”
The mother of two has launched an initiative to increase public awareness of childhood obesity. It well could be her legacy because statistics indicate one in three American children is overweight or obese.

Dietitian Kathy Wise, Mercy Medical Center’s director of health and wellness, has seen a “huge increase” in obese youngsters over her 20-plus years in the profession. She blames parents’ and children’s tight schedules, fewer sit-down family meals and too much fast food.
