MUMBAI: Shiv Sena has canceled its proposed campaigning against the Australian cricket players to play in the upcoming IPL matches.
A statement on this was given by the Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray on Tuesday evening, hours after CMAshok Chavan said that the administration will provide security for the players.
"It is pointless to continue a move based on loyalty. People are not interested in such issues. The Indians living in Australia has said that the Sena stir would make it difficult for them (Indians) back in Australia. Swallowing everything this into account Sena has taken the decision. We do not want Sainiks to keep his neck out on an issue that lacks universal appeal, "Thackeray said in his declaration.
"Let the Australian cricket players come here, let the Pakistani cricket players come here. La trained terrorists come here. Senators want to do something, "Thackeray said.
Sena chose to go on the backfoot to avoid a spat with Chavan, said a senior Sena leader. At the same time Chavan said: "administration is not afraid of threats that the Sena has repeatedly been issued. We will not bow to pressure tactics. IPL All players will be equipped with safety."
