Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan said Sunday "due consideration" to be given to the wishes of a rape victim if she chooses to marry the rapist, or child conceived of the crime.
"Due consideration must be given to their personal independence, because in some luggage the victim may choose to marry the doer, or choose to bear a child conceived from side to side forced sexual intercourse," he said in his speech at the 'National Consultation on access to justice, relief and treatment of rape victims "here.
In a word of warning, "said Balakrishnan, judges, lawyers and social activists should also ensure that they do not take an overt paternalistic attitude when they make decisions for the welfare of rape wounded.
